THEATERS

 Napoli

Theater Bellini
The Bellini is a small jewel shining in the heart of Naples' historical center between the National Museum, the Fine Arts Academy, the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella and Piazza Bellini. The floral decorations, the Baroque gold, the scenes in the proscenium arch, the curtain with sirens and the rock, the suggestive steps leading to the small rehearsal hall are just some of the beauties of the theater.

Theater San Carlo
The theater, inaugurated on November 4,1737, was enriched by architect Ferdinando Fuga in 1767 when he added large mirrors on the stage, so as to create showy light effects on stage. Around 1810, Antonio Niccolini intervened on the façade to construct a Neoclassic body for theatre, through a portico with an ashlar adorned with 5 bas-reliefs, dominated by a travertine balustrade and 14 white marble columns to support the triangular gable. The theatre, destroyed by a fire in 1816, was re-built by Niccolini, who kept the original horseshoe design. Niccolini enriched the interiors by decorating the stage parapets with golden friezes and silver bas-reliefs. The ceiling’s curtain is a work by Giuseppe Cammarano. The main stage curtain, portraying Parnassus, was made by Giuseppe Mancinelli in 1854.
