Excellence is the first adjective that comes to mind when describing the quality of wine in Campania. The land’s fertility gives way to notable wines such as DOCG Taurasi, Greco di Tufo and Fiano, each with the DOC label that elevates their quality and status even further. The DOC label signifies the rebirth of a thousand-year tradition. Wines such as the Falerno del Massico and l'Aglianico del Taburno have returned vitality and prestige to the region through their robust and harmonious bouquets. New wines are also under development in Campania, such as the Falanghina and the Coda di Volpe, thus adding to the variety of regional wines that go unrivaled. |

Cheese in Campania is synonymous with Bufala mozzarella, a symbol of gastronomy for the region. Bufala mozzarella derives its name from the term, “mozzare,” which describes its somewhat round, soft shape. The cheese industry, however, is not just comprised of mozzarella: other cheeses made from cow's milk that are typical to the region include: Provolone del Monaco and the famous Caciocavallo Podolico. From sheep is Pecorino di Carmasciano, that displays the same gastronomical importance in taste, tradition and nutritional value.

The tradition of livestock breeding is rooted in the tradition and local culture of Campania. Here, farmers believe in eliminating waste by finding a purpose for everything. From these values have come the popular regional specialties of salami, sopressata and sausage. Famous is Neapolitan salami, which is produced throughout Campania. Another rather new product is Carne di Bufalo Campano, which has many of the same qualities and nutrition of traditional meats but it is lower in fat and has a more succulent taste. Carne di Bufalo is growing in popularity and could soon be added to the list of notable products from the Campania region. |
